Oyez, oyez...

Today it a big deal. 1/2 hour ago I walked out of my last class where my last presentation and project were due of the semester. But this wasn't just any ol' semester. 4 months ago, when I was at the starting line, I used to spend my thinking time wondering how I was going to get through this it...if I was going to make it. It hadn't started yet but I couldn't help but be intimidated by the looming feeling in my gut. But it is done. The race was won. Won because it was finished. So I'm going to indulge a little and recap:

It started out with a failure. I got through a month of web design and couldn't hack it. All I managed was an animation and this first home page. I was planning on making a website about these weird belts they make in the Philippines but one night I couldn't fall asleep because of looming feeling I mentioned earlier and realized I needed to drop something. 4 studio classes were TOO much.

But I did manage to pump this little guy out. Meet the pet catfish

And this 30-something page catalog followed.
The one on the right is the mask I made. It really lights up!
I thought it was soo cool. Even if it is kinda ugly

Also, in about January, loads of time was spent searching the MLS website for houses. Jake and I reckoned it was a good time to buy...as long as it was the right house.
We finally decided on a new condo in Nibley but it fell through because they couldn't guarantee it'd be done by the deadline to get an $8,000 tax thingy. So we went back to searching and found this little beauty:
She's on 460 E and 900 N...so close to campus...in our price range...perfect. So we went to work to get a loan. The day of our reception we were at Wells Fargo signing loans. When we were FINALLY finished I had a sick feeling that I'd just signed my life away, got in the car and got ready...wedding dress included. No wonder I barfed that morning. EW. BUT THEN....
Married at last!!!! I had so much fun the next 5 days. No worries, just fun! Like a shimmering star in the semester firmament.

Zions...
On the way back from exotic S. Utah and Vegas we found out the loan had fallen through. LUCKILY, my wise father already had a better loan lined up with USU Community Credit Union. Lower interest rate, none of the hassle that Wells Fargo had heaped.

Back to skoooool. My next project due was a product design. We all picked a line and came up with color pallets, patterns, etc... So I used my 3Ding to my advantage and did a dinnerware collection

it was actually really fun. My cool teacher who coached us through it also sold me some RAD chairs I'm in LOVE with. Stay tuned for a picture of those.

I have a couple jobs right now. Unfortunately, the one for my dad's appraisal business got the back seat and I managed about 1-2 hours a week. My other one, however, was pumping up. There was Earth Day...

...then the biggest of all: Robins awards. I had to do the programs, posters, invitations etc... for the awards ceremony USU does at the end of the year. I learned a lot about printing and in the end the 50 page program I thought would kill me turned out pretty nice.

One of my classes is all about concept. Which is good. It was one of my goals this semester to get better at this. One of the projects/problems was for Print magazine's student competition and it was seemingly impossible. It was meant to solve the dilemma of how digital platforms and print pieces co-exist now and in the future. How do you communicate that in one image??? We all had the tendency to complicate it.
In the end, my teacher liked it. I was a little flu-ish that morning and missed critique but apparently it had been brutal.

The next project was a poster for the Chicago-something-competition about traveling in a more eco-friendly way.
So, I had a few other projects but...

...enough schooled and onto the house. (Wow, this post is long. Sorry)(But not sorry enough to stop here) After living with Jake's brother Luke and wife Natalie for a few weeks we got to move in!!!! But before we did we painted a little. I kinda dug the first colors but the neon was too much for Jake. So it went from this...

to this!!!
See the chairs? They're in both before and afters. I LOVE THEM! PS. The befores were taken right as the previous tenants were packing up and leaving. I worked with the wife. That's how we knew it was for sale. So they let us come and go as we pleased and we talked about EVERYTHING! It was a very unconventional sales but in my opinion, that's how it should always be done.

The living room before was white. I'm planning on hanging loads of pics and art work on the colorful walls to tone the color down a bit. But as always, it looks better in person then in picture.

So. As I wrote earlier. I just finished my last project which was another animation. So we'll end with that. It's MUCH better with the sound on. Thanks for reading!

  3. Aw, Kara! Wish I could be there to give ya a great big congratulatory hug! You've had a LOT going on these past months! I'm glad you can kick back a bit now and enjoy it all. I'm proud of ya, and that's the truth. I adore the paint in your house - I still mourn the fact that I can't be around to help you get settled and do little wife-y chores together. Oh, and I thoroughly enjoyed your animation - cool music in it too! And ALL your projects you posted. SO cool. I'll call ya to chat soon okay? (But not real soon, cause I have a wicked dry cough thing going on that flares up when I try speaking more than a few sentences in a row... but soon!) Love you, Kara. Give my regards to Mr. Nesbit, won't you dear?
