Ginny

I've been thinking a lot about getting older. When I was a kid, older people would always say they couldn't believe how old I was and how they remember me being a baby blah, blah, blah. Well, the thing about it is, I still feel like I should be 21. I'm only 25 but if I already feel younger than I am, what's it going to be like when I'm 90? And I have great grandkids and I pinch their cheeks too hard because I've lost my sense of touch from holding cigarettes all those years?  I think once you hit the prime of life, you always feel that age but you end up measuring your age by the way little kids grow.

Another reason for these thoughts is I recently scanned about 400 old photos of my Dad's side of the family, mainly my Grandma. When I was born my Grandmother was 61, so seeing pictures of her and my Grandpa at my age opens a whole new side to her. I love looking at them so for your viewing pleasure:

My dad. I love the classic overalls-with-no-shirt-little-rascals look:

The famous "Lawrence Welk" shot!

Flirting:

Grandma as a wee girl...she's front left with the tan skin / lots of freckles

I think old people are really the only ones who know what's going on in life...even if they don't seem like it. They may not know that much about computers, new technology, or be able to drive, but none of those things are important when we get to the next life anyway.

Last week I came upstairs at my parents house in a frenzy about being a grown-up. Taxes, insurance, and my general future suddenly got the better of me. Luckily my grandma has been staying at my parents house because, unluckily, she's not feeling tip-top, and was able to console me.

I used to bring my Grandpa (on my mom's side) to my parents house a lot as well and whenever we were in the car we'd always talk about family and church callings and anything out of the ordinary he spotted as we drove past it. And although I was partly entertained by his short attention span, I loved hearing about his life and interests.

I hope I can be a good old person like my grandparents and not an old bitty who complains too much.

On a more comical note: I've been watching and laughing at this all last week:

  3. Love this post, Kara! Way to preserve these pics - they are precious family history. I'm with Amber - copies of these would be great to have. And I loved the video - do you think it's for real? Could a little smack of the purse really set off the airbag? The guy behind the wheel looked like the classic jerkface you see in the movies - hah!

  4. Is that BUD your dad is holding? Wow! I didn't realize dogs could live so long. The flirting picture needs to be framed somewhere.

I think we were always jealous of all the goods Virginia bought you for every b day and Christmas. She is a cool lady.
