Get A Job Sir.
Well, someone told me last week that the way to reach adulthood is by either getting a real, full-time job or by getting pregnant. Monday I got a phone call that I was granted a full-time job at the University as a designer for PR & Marketing and Admissions. YAY! I was excited because it means we'll have some monies and some insurance now. It also means I have to be at work at 8am (what!?) and stop partying so much since I have to go M-F from 8-5. Don't get me wrong....I'm soooo grateful. There were 40 people who applied (it's a GOOD job - especially for graphic design in logan, ut) and they narrowed it down to 4 after the interview process. Since they couldn't decided, they had us show them what we're made of by asking us design a postcard. It was meant to be for High School seniors who had been accepted into USU but were still on the fence about coming. It was a close one and I was on antacids all week second-guessing my postcard and convincing myself it wasn't THAT great of a job.
I'm just feeling a little weird about being an adult. When did this happen? I sorta imagined that even when I got a real job I'd just sit at my computer, listening to weird, indie music and designing stuff...not too different than while I was in school. But, I'm going to have to wear trousers (maybe) and meet with important university people and be in charge of interns and other department's designers and manage a cohesive university identity.
Luckily I can ease into it by having my mom pick me up and take me up there (since she works up there too and has a sweet parking spot) just like she did when I was 6. Phewf!
A few people have mentioned wanting to see this postcard that got me my kick-butt job. I did it on a Saturday afternoon. If I'd had more time I'd probably fine-tune the front shapes and typography but enough of my disclaimers. Here it is...Front and back
Go Aggies!
Very cool! It took me a second to realize that the buildings were in there correct place as on campus and yeah very cool!! Good job and congrats!
ReplyDeleteCongrats Kara! SO VERY EXCITING!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on becoming a adult :)!!
ReplyDeleteAt first i thought it was just a really cute post-card and then BAM i realized it was a map of campus. I wish you could share your creative juice with me.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you got the job!! You are amazing. Oh and by the way I was reading my missionary study journal today (yes,I am that righteous) and a rough draft of a poem I wrote to you about Bangor fell out. It was hilarious and it made me miss you.
ReplyDeleteYeah Kara! Now get busy on your second step in becoming an adult... Love you!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the job!!!! And you're postcard looked awesome! Welcome to adulthood.....you're gonna love it.....most of the time:)

ReplyDeleteCongrats on the job! How could they not choose you, you're made for the job.
Love ya,
Jenny
That is a brilliant postcard you made. Hidden in the picture, the shapes form a beer bottle. Those that are looking for a party will subliminally see the bottle and know USU is the place for them. Those not looking for a party will have a strange desire to drink some IBC rootbeer.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the job, and don't worry - it will be a long time yet before we think of you as an adult.
